1. Picture the child you once were, what did that child do very well?

My early childhood revolved around books and writing. I have always loved words. I can remember copying the children’s story of the three billygoats Gruff. My grandmother always bought me books as presents, normally the classics like Black Beauty, What Katy Did and Treasure Island. I read them over and over. At thirteen I discovered Lord of the Rings and I swore when I was older I would write books like those and I did.

2. What are you really good at now?

Putting my foot in my mouth. I have perfected it into an art form. I had my 21st birthday in a church hall and the manse was attached to the back of it. When we were cleaning up after the party I heard the priest speaking with a woman. Yes, in those days I gossiped. I rushed back into the hall to tell my friends that the priest was carrying on with his housekeeper. There was a stony silence and one of y girlfriends said, ‘My mum is his housekeeper.’

3. Did you ever expect love in return and not get it?

Yes when I was twelve I knew a young boy and I had a crush but I swore it was true love. I expected him to love me back but nothing happened. Well we didn’t really speak so it was difficult for it to work. Seemed that young boy was eighteen.

4. Who do you need to get in touch with because it has been so long?

Myself. Sometimes I let it slip and forget me.

5. What are your thoughts on this:“Every woman deserves her special day. I get that. But does it really have to cost so much fucking money? I mean, c’mon. If you’re serious about building a future with a guy, why bankrupt him?”

The things I treasure don’t cost a thing.

Bonus: What is your number one priority?

My relationship with S.
