I climb in bed and spread my limbs to suck the coldness out of the sheets.
Tonight I sleep alone with darkness all around me.
Shadows covering my fears.
You are ‘elsewhere’ tonight, wrapped in your own darkness.
Does your heart ache over the empty space beside you?
Does it match mine, thumping hollowly in the cold expanse of your bed?
There is no warmth behind me with arms drawing me close
So I can feel your heartbeat against me.
In the cold lonely night, dreams torment me
These dreams are a yearning for us to be in each others arms.
Our safe haven untouched by any other.
I count the hours until I feel you close, your warmth,
your lips, your arms your smile.
I want to bask in your love but for tonight
Yawning darkness consumes me.
